Let me take you back to the summer of 2018....
~The UK was experiencing a heatwave, many compared it to the summer drought of 1976.
~Our prime minister was Theresa May.
~The Ford Fiesta was the best selling car in the UK.
To be honest, the news stories of the summer 2018 are a blur. I had my own personal and more important events which needed my 100% attention.
This photo was taken on 9th July 2018, whilst Sharon and I were on holiday in Cornwall, we were staying in a quaint barn conversion overlooking the bay of St Ives. By now, Sharon was feeling really fatigued, caused by chemotherapy and radiotherapy, as well as the many other drugs that were prescribed.
The days were really hot and Sharon spent a lot of the time sleeping. We ventured out in the late afternoon, when the temperature had dropped.
One place we found, whilst exploring this wonderful coastline, was a car park perched high above a cliff. Below was a sandy beach, the access was via a steep staircase, which would have been too difficult for Sharon to climb back up.
Instead we positioned our camping chairs in front of the car, made a cup of tea from our flask and simply enjoyed talking and watching the beautiful sunset.
We both loved this photo and had it enlarged into a canvass print. It also became the backdrop of the 'Sharon's Fight for Life' crowd funding campaign, that we had set up, in hope that we would be able to raise enough funds for Sharon to have immunotherapy treatment aboard. However, Sharon sadly passed away before any of this type of treatment could be offered.
This photo acts as a lasting memory of that time in Cornwall, and for me, it also shows strength, courage, love, beauty and freedom.
Our holiday in Cornwall turned out to be our last holiday together.
